Tracking the GST return filing status is as uncomplicated as making some clicks on a keyboard. A businessman or a taxpayer just needs to log in to the official GST government portal to track GST return status.

Every businessman has to file GST Return necessarily. Once the GST Return is filed, the taxpayer or businessman must make sure that the return is uploaded on the official government portal so that immediate action can be taken if the return is pending or not uploaded. Online Process to Track GST Return Manually After Login

Now let us look at a simple process to check status of GST return filing online with the help of official GST portal provided by Government of India:

· Step 1

Visit the official government GSTN portal i.e. https://gst.gov.in.

· Step 2

Submit the login details and access your account.

· Step 3

Click on the Services then click on Returns and then click on Track Return Status tab.

When ARN is Available:

· Step 1:

Choose ARN option and then submit ARN details.

· Step 2:

Click on the Search Tab.

· Step 3:

Finally check the GST return status which will be displayed on your screen.

When Searching for GST Return Filing period:

· Step 1:

Select the GST return filing period via available calendar.

· Step 2:

Click on the Search tab

When Searching for the GST return Status:

· Step 1:

Click on the option of status of the return in the drop-down list

· Step 2:

Online Process to Track GST Return Manually Without Login

· Step 1:

Visit the government GSTN official portal i.e. https://gst.gov.in.

· Step 2:

Click on the Search Taxpayer tab on the menu bar

· Step 3:

Click on the ‘Search by UIN/ GSTIN’ tab which will appear after completing Step 2

· Step 4:

Provide the business enterprise’s GSTIN ID

· Step 5:

Submit the captcha code and then click on the Search tab

Now the Company Details will be displayed on the screen which includes the following Details:

· Legal Name of Business

· Jurisdiction of Centre

· Jurisdiction of State

· Date of Registration

· Date of Cancellation

· Status of GSTIN / UIN

· Business’s Constitution

· Type of Taxpayer

· Type of Business Activities

· Details regarding Field Visit

In addition to the details of the business, a list of all the GST returns filed lately will also be displayed on the screen along with the following subheadings:

· Financial Year

· Return Type

· Tax Period

· Date of Filing

· Status

With this process, the information will be displayed on your screen in a simple manner without any additional information regarding the status of return such as type of status, etc. Another way to track GST return status is a manual process for which Application Reference Number (ARN) is needed/available which is granted to the taxpayer after the applicant submits the Goods and Services Tax return on the government’s official Portal so that the taxpayer can track the status manually.

Taxpayer need not to login into the official GST portal with the above process to track GST return filing status and consequently only the GST return status will be displayed on your screen without any additional Information.

Consequences of Filing Late GST Return

Failing to file GST returns within the prescribed due date will attract an interest of 18% per annum; the interest will be calculated on the total due amount. Apart from this, the taxpayer also has to pay a late fee of INR 200 for every day of default, which wouldn’t go above INR 5,000.
